Once my “Anansi” screenplay didn’t get selected for the film program I applied to, I decided to register with Black List.
I’ve heard of Black List before, mainly as a site where unknown screenplays sometimes surface and get selected for production. In some rare cases, Hollywood execs actually find talent via the site.
I figured registering couldn’t hurt, and that if I paid for some reviews I could at least get a sense of where the screenplay is.
The reviews are $100 each, so not too cheap. I paid for 2. The first I got was an average score of 6, which is where most screenplays on the site sit. I hoped the second would score at least the same. The second review was a lower score though, but gave me an idea for some plot changes.
I think I’ll start working on a second version of the screenplay. I was hesitant to start working on any new project — worrying it was just another that will sit unpublished forever — but the screenplay will give me a sense of purpose. Hopefully that sense of purpose will keep me motivated.
