I decided to finally bite the bullet and pursue some paid feedback for my cover letter. I also switched job agencies, since I felt like the one I was using before wasn’t helping much. I’ve had more resume help with the new agency and more transparency about their limits and services.
When I was first laid off back in October I assumed my experience would make getting another job easier. I’d been lucky with my previous two positions; getting back into the market quickly due to references and some luck.
My assumption that things would work out well led me away from getting help with my cover letter and resume.
It took 6 months of job hunting, with lots of applications and few interviews, for me to think that my applications weren’t effective.
I only wish I’d pursued resume and CL help as soon as I got laid off. I can’t help but think this would have helped me to land something by now.
