The Next Journey: Comic Books

I’ve shared previously how I am still querying to get an agent for my book. However, I also shared that after a particular query (which was filled with praise but still said something was missing) I decided that I needed to look into other ways to get published.

That is why I started to look into screenplay writing and video game writing. I am currently working on an indie video game. It is on a volunteer basis but can hopefully lead to some other projects if this game has moderate success. I got involved in this game from connections I made doing a game writing course, and it feels fulfilling to get involved in something that I have dreamed of doing.

I also started looking into comic book writing. Comic book writing is a whole other hurdle due to the issue of art. I can’t draw so I need to find an artist who can draw my work, and then I need to submit it to comic book companies.

I want to use the opening scene of “Hazard” for the script. I am a newbie when it comes to a comic book script but an artist I found via Reddit (the ComicCollaborators group) was kind enough to send some good resources that will help me do a five-page script needed to guide his work, and to give us enough for a pitch.

Outside of that the artist also invited me to be a member of a new comic book magazine. I want to save the “Hazard” pitch for bigger comic book submissions, even if it’s a long shot. For now I will try pitching the Memory Catcher short story for my first piece.

I am hoping that some success in one branch of writing can finally get me to where I want to be.
